About Audhara

Audhara resort is located on the Western Caucasus, in Abkhazia in 18 km from lake Ritsa, at the height of 1600 m above the sea level, well-known for its mineral sources.
At thi monent only one of springs is equipped — water from it delivered to Suhum factory of mineral waters. The next years in Audhara hotel, pavilion of mineral water and a bathing building are supposed to be constucted.
Ritsa Relic National Park is located in the Audhara valley. The reserve area occupies 39 thousand hectares. The relief differes from 100 m to 3,256 thousand m above the sea level (mountain Agepsta) and creates a rich spectrum of ecological conditions for growing many plants and dwelling of animals.
The reserve climate is varies a lot, from moderate-warm in the bottom part to cold in the top part. Temperature of the coldest month February −1 °C, an absolute minimum of temperature in high mountains −30 °C. The average temperature of air in August +19 °C, an absolute maximum +32 °C, a water temperature in lake Ritsa reaches in the top layer to +22 °C in the summer, and in the winter in rare years the lake becomes covered by a thin crust of ice. The mid-annual amount of precipitation on Ritse reaches to 1650 mm. In the Auadharsky valley the height of a snow cover reaches 5-6 m. In some places of high mountains снежники have not time to thaw for a summer.
The high-mountainous relief and plentiful atmospheric precipitation have helped creation of favorable conditions for formation of set of lakes, rivers and falls. Special pride of National park is the lake Big Ritsa. But therea other lakes that compete to it original beauty. They are Small Ritsa, Blue lake, and some glacial lakes in high mountains. To largest of falls is Gegsky, falling white fifty five meters curtain from a wall of the Gegsky canyon.


Nature

The lake Ritsa is located at height of 950 metres above the sea level. Auadhara mineral springs are located at 18 km above lake Ritsa - at height of 1700 metres above the sea level. On this part of the way opens magnificent panorama of gorges and the mountains covered with beechen forest. It is the central part of Ritsa-Auadhara reserve founded in 1930. The valley of Auadhara is considered one of the most remarkable and beauty places on Caucasus. But it is interesting not only because of its landscapes: in its bowels huge stocks of curative mineral water.

From the Auadhara valley all nearby mountains are well seen. Bears, wild boars, wolves, foxes, martens live in local woods. Among rocks it is possible to see mountain Caucasian goats, Caucasian deers, roes, chamoises.


Infrastructure

On the bank of the lake there is Stalin's summer residence and a summer residence of Brezhnev adjoining it. Historical furniture and interior subjects has remained there, and excursions are led.
The highway from the coast of Black sea to the lake is passing through the valleys of the rivers Bzyb, Jupshara and Gega.
