Gudauta is a town in Abkhazia and a centre of the eponymous district. It is situated on the Black Sea, 37 km northwest to Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia.
The sea bay where Gudauta is located, is bordered by a gravel beach, transiting into sand on the east. A swimming season — from the middle of May till October. Medical means: air and solar baths, sea bathings. Treatment of patients with diseases of respiratory organs of not tubercular character, nervous and cardiovascular systems, metabolism infringements.
Gudauta is a climatic seaside resort. A climate is humid subtropics (slightly more cool also is more humid, than in Suhum and Gagra) with very soft winter (average temperature of January 9°C) and very warm summer (average temperature of July 28 °C); precipitation - 1460 mm a year. Speed of a wind the small; strong winds happen no more than 8 days in a year (mostly in the spring). The resort season in Gudaute lasts all year long. It is located on a raised plateau, on the bank of a small bay of еру Black sea. The resort is rich with subtropical citron and fruit plantings. On ennobled to seacoast there is a city park in which the monument to victims in an air crash has been established in 1992. From northern and northeast party, in 15 — 20 km adjoins a chain of high mountains of the Caucasian ridge almost 7 months in a year covered by snow.
The most part of a tourist infrastructure of Abkhazia, counting 12 000 hotel places, has been being thrown, only recently starts to revive gradually.
Memorial estate "Abazgija". The picturesque resort places — Gold coast and Myussera (Mysra) are located in 18 — 20 kilometres to the northwest from Gudauta.
In 4 km from Gudauta, in settlement Lyhny, there is a medieval architectural complex: ruins of a palace construction, belltower and a dome temple (X — XI centuries) with XIV century frescos.
The fortress of Abahvatsa is in territory of the settlement with the same name, in six kilometres from the main road. Fortifications surround territory of 600 square metres. The height of walls in some places reaches three metres, thickness on the average — metre. On the brink of breakage there is a well remained four-storeyed quadrangular tower. In the northwest there is a destroyed subway, and not investigated cave. According to technics of a laying and design features, the fortress of Abahvatsa has been constructed not later than XIII century.
